I am about to have a baby so i've been bombarded with things I want to get done before he comes...on Tuesday...
So last night, I decided to make a new diaper pouch for #3. I have another one but it's pink. I don't want a pink one for my little boy so I wanted a new boy one.
I found a scrap of fabric that would go perfect for a quick pouch. I wanted it to be simple because I can't sit at the machine for too long. This isn't the highest quality but who cares right? This tutorial is so easy, you could make this in 10 minutes, seriously!
So I found a piece of fabric that measured 7 1/2 inches by 24 inches...a really long rectangle. But if you are starting with new fabric and have a lot of it, I would maybe make it a tad bigger, like 8 1/2 x 27 because it will fit more diapers and a bigger wipes. Again, I was working with scraps here :) (sorry no pic....sewed it before I took a picture!)

Next, you will have the extra flap from the longer end. Where the two pieces end, cut 1/4 inch to the flap so that you can hem the whole flap around. Sew around the flap.
***Make sure you fold and hem down the right side...meaning the side that will be underneath after this is all said and done. ;)***
Next, turn it all inside out so it's all nice and right. I used heat-bonded velcro. Place velcro where desired and then follow directions to secure it onto the pouch.

Hem one end, about 1/4 of a inch. Then decide where you want it to fold over to make the pouch. Fold over the hemmed edge so that it will be the shorter fold. I folded over 11 inches, so the longer side measured 13 inches. Pin the sides together and sew them shut.

Place some diapers in there and you are done!!
See how easy that is? Like I said, it's not the best quality because it doesn't have a lining but does that really matter? It didn't to me yesterday when I made it :)
And guess what?! One of you lucky readers will win this exact diaper pouch!!! I need a larger one because I have 2 kids in diapers so I need to make another one.
So how do you win?

Good Luck :)
Let's see... what's interesting... I pretty much just want you to make me another diaper pouch so, um... I took Mary to Sea World today and she was actually tall enough to ride that little Shamu roller coaster. All the rest of her friends are about 4 inches too short. Does that qualify?
ReplyDeleteCute little case! The one I'm using now was actually the packaging for a crib sheet someone gave me for a baby shower gift...random, I know.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have to say, I love the fact that you had a few bobby pins lying around a couple of your pictures...My husband is always getting onto me for accidentally leaving them places :)
Okay, so I am now a crafty clique follower, and I blogged about it on That's {FAM}tastic!
ReplyDeleteLove the blog Lyssa! You don't know me, but I am actually a Crafty Clique-er here in SA. It's been a fun way to get to know people since we moved here this summer!
Good luck with your baby!
I LOVE how easy it is. I like to sew but after about 10 minutes I've reached my threshold. Excellent gift idea! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Reading this stuff makes me want to make time to sew (I even have a sewing machine boxed up.)
ReplyDeleteOkay, interesting...There's this store called Habitat for Humanity Restore where you can buy stuff really cheap. And if your crafty you can turn it into something very cute and very cool. Google it to find one near you:)
Hope that's good enough.
This is perfect, because I've been wanting one of those for months! Once I was able to ditch the diaper bag I realized I needed something like that!!! It looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThis is the cutest pouch! I love the fabric you chose. I would love to win this!
ReplyDeleteSo this is so cute and I really like the colors. I've always wanted to try and make one but i'm just not that good. So maybe if I win I won't have to make one... :)
ReplyDeleteOr maybe you can make me one and I'll buy it from you.
